The Athens Bead Society was born in 1998 when a group of local beadworkers got together to produce displays and educational material for an exhibit of contemporary bead artwork called Beadworks, now known as Bead International, a juried biennial international exhibition at the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center.
We started our meetings with show-and-tells and socializing. We have visited
area exhibits, hosted our own retreats and exhibitions, shared techniques, invited
guest speakers, and shared our resources. At this time we are not holding meetings.
A lack of funds due to the current grant situation has been a major factor.
The Athens Bead Society continues to keep in touch, and we will do our part
to make it a very exciting time to be a beadworker in Athens, Ohio.
Our group usually meets on the second Wednesday of each month, from 6:30-8:00
p.m. at area public facilities. Unfortunately we are not holding meetings at
this time. Hopefully new grants will become available to allow us to bring in
talented educators soon. Our intent is to draw on our group talents to help
each other in creating and marketing our beadwork. For more information on the
